For the past several years, the (left leaning) feminist community has charged the Republican establishment of waging a war against women, and rightly so, because of the series of laws that Republican dominated legislatures nationwide have passed to restrict women’s access to contraception (and abortion). One of the powerful feminist arguments has been the link between contraceptive use and women’s health. By all accounts, contraceptive use has tremendous health benefits for women. While we hail the benefits of contraception and berate Republicans for standing in the way, we have given scant attention to the adverse health effects contraceptives can have on women’s bodies. This presentation will revisit the war against women and then discuss some of the dangers of the use of certain contraceptives on the market today.
