Writing the Urban Workshop

Abstract: 

As in previous years, we will use the time to write about a particular urban theme, share our writing, and plan on how to expand on it beyond this hands-on workshop. In the past, themes have included city characters, everyday urban performances, public places, food. So, bring a piece of paper, a pen or a pencil, and your urban enthusiasm, and let’s write together.

Dr. Blagovesta Momchedjikova, NYU, edited Captured by the City: Perspectives in Urban Culture Studies (2013) and Urban Feel (2010); and co-edited From Above: The Practice of Verticality (2019), The Panorama Handbook (2018), and Public Space: Between Spectacle and Resistance (2016). Writing the Urban: A Writing Workshop

Do you like to write about cities? Are you curious about how to write about cities? If so, come to this writing workshop, equipped with your urban enthusiasm, a pen or a pencil, and some paper to write on: we will write a lot. Via a series of writing prompts, we will tackle a particular urban theme. In previous years we wrote about public places, urban memory, city characters, everyday urban performances, city food, urban conflict.
