It has been over 45 years since Kotler (1973) first called music an “atmospheric effect.” While music and retail continues to be a popular topic in popular press, it has not achieved the same amount of popularity in the academic press. This paper updates the last exhaustive review of the literature by Allan (2017) and extends the stream to the online marketplace.
