This presentation looks at what has rapidly become the language of the Internet and the forefront of popular culture: internet memes. What effectively started as jokes on imageboards during the dawn of Internet culture has turned into one of the most basic units of life in the Digital Age. Looking at a history of the popularization of these media and what role they play in today’s world, this study shows how the world’s largest inside jokes have begun to define society as we know it.
