Stories with female heroes as the main characters of their own stories are starting to appear more in film and television. Shows like Agent Carter, Jessica Jones, Super Girl and Wynonna Earp feature stories where women are the focus. Even films like Mad Max: Fury Road, the new Ghost Busters, and the upcoming film Wonder Woman put more focus if not total focus on the idea that women can be the heroes of their own stories. This presentation will focus on recognizing the significant progress of female characters while also analyzing where more progress can be done to create greater representation in pop culture.
